Yaz Symptoms and Side Effects

Yaz and Yasmin have been linked to an increased risk of serious, often fatal health conditions, including:

  • Heart Attack
  • Stroke
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
  • Pulmonary Embolism (PE)
  • Gallbladder Disease
  • Seizures
  • Blood Clots
  • Kidney Failure
  • Cardiac Arrhythmia
  • Death

Symptoms of deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in the legs) include persistent, unexplained leg pain. Symptoms of a pulmonary embolism (blockages in the lungs) include chest pain and shortness of breath.

The severe reactions to Yaz and Yasmin are linked to drospirenone, a new generation of synthetic progesterone. Drospirenone can cause elevated levels of potassium in the body, which may cause the health concerns listed above.  The use of drospirenone is unique to Yaz and Yasmin, as it is not found in other birth control pills available in the United States.

Yaz and Yasmin related blood clots can lead to pain, difficulty performing normal daily tasks, or even death.

The Food and Drug Administration has received reports of a significant number of deaths among women using Yaz or Yasmin.
